Fatal accident: Drunk Calgary teens stood in middle of road
CALGARY – A teenager has died while another is in critical condition in hospital after they were struck by an SUV while standing in the middle of the street.
Police said a 17-year-old girl rushed to hospital following the incident has died. A 19-year-old female remains in critical condition.
The accident occurred near the intersection of 16th Avenue and 36 Street N.E.
Duty Insp. Rob Williams said the two were standing in the middle of the eastbound lane of 16th Avenue when they were struck.
Williams said it appeared alcohol was a factor in their behaviour.
Police do not suspect alcohol was a factor in the case of the vehicle’s driver.
“The driver of the vehicle stopped to render assistance and notified CPS of the event. Both victims were transported by EMS,” he said.
