Cops hunt hit-and-run car in Toronto woman’s death

TORONTO – A 30-year-old woman was run down twice by vehicles while she was walking on Steeles Avenue on Tuesday. She died from her injuries.

Police are now looking for a Toyota Corolla that ran over the woman while she was on the ground after she had been struck by the first vehicle.

Police said the accident occurred at around 5.34 p.m. on Tuesday at Steeles Avenue East and Silver Star Boulevard.

A 75-year-old driver of a Ford Windstar traveling east on Steeles across the intersection when the vehicle struck the woman who was walking across.

“The van struck the woman, knocking her to the ground – a second vehicle, reported to be a late?model Toyota Corolla, travelling northbound on Silver Star Boulevard, made a right turn onto Steeles Avenue East and also struck the woman, who was still on the ground,” said a police spokesman.

“The second vehicle continued eastbound, failing to remain at the scene of the collision. The woman was taken to hospital with life?threatening injuries. She succumbed to her injuries on Wednesday, December 29, 2010.”
