Toronto couple charged with elder abuse

TORONTO – A Toronto couple has been charged with elder abuse and criminal negligence causing bodily harm after cops were alerted last week to a residence on McCowan Road and Finch Avenue East where they found an elderly woman in a life-threatening condition placed in a non-insulated garage of the home.

The man, Kwong Yan, 43, and his wife Qi Tan, 28 both of Toronto moved Yan’s 68-year old mother into the garage in November 2010 and allegedly failed to provide her with the necessaries of life.

The couple were arrested and charged last Saturday at Old City Hall court.
