Abducted boy returned to his home

SPARWOOD, B.C. – Update – Missing boy Kienan Hebert is back home after he was dropped off in the middle of the night.

“The RCMP have confirmed that abducted Sparwood child Kienan Hebert was returned to the family home between 03:00 and 03:15 MST Sunday morning September 11 2011, alive and appearing to be in good health,” RCMP said. Police are continuing their search for the suspect.

Earlier story follows:

With still no sign of three-year-old Kienan Hebert or his abductor, the little boy’s parents have issued a heart-wrenching plea to the suspect to drop off their child and walk away.

“Speaking to whoever has Kienan right now. We are just asking please bring Kienan to a safe place right now. Okay. Like a gas station or a store parking lot where he is visibly seen and you can just drop him off there. Walk away. We just want him safe. Kienan is only 3 years old right now, and as you know and we know, Kienan can’t speak. So he can’t tell us who you are. This is your chance now to get away. All we want is Kienan to come back with us and to be safe in our arms again. Thank you,” said the boy’s parents, Tammy and Paul Hebert.

At the same time, police have confirmed that the same suspect – Randall Peter Hopley, 46 – attempted to abduct another child hours before Kienan was taken from his family home in Sparwood.

An Amber Alert is in effect and police continue to hunt for Hopley who is described as white man with brown hair and hazel eyes. He is 5’ 10” and weighs 147 lbs.

Police are also searching for Hopley’s vehicle described as:

Brown 1987 Toyota Camry
BC License Plate 098 RAL

“Police are now in the position, as a result of the on-going and active investigation launched when Kienan was reported missing, to confirm that they are dealing with case of child abduction,” said Cpl. Dan Moskaluk. Police confirm they are dealing with a rare case of stranger abduction.

“As the investigation progresses and new information is obtained, assessed and extensively investigated, we have been able to make significant advances in this priority investigation”, said Mosaluk.

“New information, learned by police after Kienen was reported missing, has been confirmed that there was an attempt abduction earlier the day Kienan disappeared. So we once again encourage anyone with any information to please come forward and speak with police”.

Police are once again reminding the public that 3 year old Kienan, is described as having short red hair, was last seen wearing “Scooby Doo” cartoon boxer shorts and may be carrying up to 3 blankets with him.

Anyone who sees Kienan Hebert is asked to call 9-1-1 immediately.
