Elderly woman killed in hit-and-run fatality

WATERLOO – The dead body of an elderly woman was discovered early Monday morning on Washington street at West Mullan Avenue.

Police have identified her as 59-year-old Becky Lawless of 1544 Patton Avenue, Waterloo, and she is believed to have died when struck by a car while attempting to cross the road.

An autopsy of the body by the State Medical Examiner’s Office in Ankeny, Iowa, is scheduled today to determine the cause of death.
