Second mercury spill found near Pickering school
DURHAM – A second mercury spill was found Tuesday on a two-foot high utility pole near Holy Redeemer Catholic School in south Pickering.
Durham police established a perimeter and Pickering Fire Services contacted Hazardous Material (HAZMAT) cleaning company to decontaminate the area.
School activities continued undisrupted and no mercury exposures to students or school officials were reported.
Police are investigating whether this incident is connected to an incident earlier this week in which mercury was spilled over playground facilities in a nearby park in Pickering.
