Ajax woman critically injured in ricochet car crash

DURHAM – A 38-year-old Ajax woman was critically injured in a ricochet crash involving three vehicles on Westney Road North in Ajax on Monday afternoon.

The injured woman was driving a white Chevrolet Lumina, and had stopped to make a to make a left hand turn from Westney Road onto the 5th Concession when she was struck from behind by a Ford F-150 pick-up truck.

The impact drove the Lumina into on-coming traffic where it collided with a Chevrolet Sierra 3500 pick-up truck.

The driver of the Lumina was airlifted to a Toronto hospital where she is in critical condition.

The driver of the Chevrolet Sierrea pickup truck was treated for minor injuries.

The driver of the Ford F-150, Whitney James Mackenzie, aged 209, of Uxbridge was charged with careless driving.

The roadway was closed for several hours as traffic police gathered evidence. Road and weather conditions were normal at the time of the collision and none of the motorists were driving under the influence of alcohol.
