23-year-old Surrey woman charged with murder
SURREY, B.C. – A 23-year-old Surrey resident, Jessica Ashley Hanley, questioned yesterday for murder, now faces a charge of second degree murder in the death of Tashina Rae Sutherland, also 23, of Burnaby.
An autopsy scheduled on Monday will determine the cause of death.
Sutherland was declared dead on Sunday by a BC Ambulance Service (BCAS) who attended the victim in the 10600 block of 138 Street in Surrey.
Hanley has no criminal record, and was to have appeared on Monday at the Surrey Provincial Court House.
“It is believed that the victim and suspect have known each other for an extensive amount of time. As the matter is before the Courts any further details, including the cause of death, cannot be released,” said IHIT Media relations officer Sgt. Jennifer Pound.
