Mother and daughter targeted by gunman

WATERLOO – Police are investigating a homicide on Wednesday evening in which a mother and her daughter were shot in their home on 704 Newell Street by an unknown gunman.

The mother, 59 year-old Kay France Straw, was taken by Waterloo Fire Rescue to Allen Memorial Hospital where she later died of injuries.

Her daughter, 33- year-old Marlene Lynn Buss, is being treated for her injuries at an undisclosed location.

An autopsy of the dead woman will be held at the DCI Criminalist Laboratory in Ankeny.

The investigation is ongoing and no further information has been released.
