Elderly Calgary woman dies in collision on Hwy 1

Canada Traffic Services are investigating the death of a 68-year-old Calgary woman involved in a collision between four vehicles last Saturday.

The collision occurred on Hwy 1 at about 4:15 pm, 1 km West of Golden B.C.

The highway was closed for seven hours while police gathered evidence and cleared the road of debris to reopen it to traffic.

Preliminary findings indicate that the female driver of a Chevrolet Impala crossed the centerline and struck an oncoming Toyota truck. She was critically injured and airlifted to Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital where she later died.

The two occupants of the Toyota pick up were also injured and transported by ambulance to hospital for treatment.

An unknown number of persons in a commercial truck and a fourth vehicle involved in the collision received minor injuries.

The RCMP Traffic Services and BC Coroners Services are continuing their investigations.
