Woman unscathed after vehicle flips to avoid raccoon

DURHAM – A 24-year-old Clarington woman emerged with minor injuries after she was freed from her vehicle which had flipped after she served to avoid hitting a stray raccoon.

The incident occurred late Wednesday night as she was driving down Baseline Road near Courtice Road when a raccoon ran onto the road. She swerved to avoid hitting the animal, flipping her vehicle and ending up in the ditch upside down.

Emergency workers were called in to free the trapped woman who was taken to hospital.

She was later released with minor injuries, but the damage to her car was estimated at about $15,000.
