YVR passenger had 42 cocaine filled condoms inside him

VANCOUVER – A passenger flying to Sydney, Australia from Vancouver has been caught with 42 cocaine filled condoms inside his stomach.

Canada Border Services officers intercepted the passenger on April 26, 2012 during routine outbound currency check at Vancouver International Airport.

“Throughout the initial interview, the officers noticed inconsistencies in the traveller’s statements and referred him for a more thorough examination,” a spokesman said.

“Upon further examination, officers determined that the traveller may have ingested a large amount of narcotics. He was immediately arrested by border services officers, and escorted to a hospital, where the traveller’s health could be monitored and drugs obtained in a controlled environment.”

“The traveller eventually expelled 42 condoms filled with suspected narcotics. Once doctors confirmed there was no more contraband in the traveller’s system, border services officers transferred him into the custody of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police along with the suspected drugs,” CBSA officers said.

“This seizure highlights the vigilance of our border services officers, as their training and experience led them to intercept a significant amount of suspected illegal drugs, even when such drastic concealment methods were used,” said Ken Macpherson, Acting Director for CBSA for Vancouver International Airport District.

“The CBSA is committed to protecting the safety and security of Canadians and our communities. We would like to congratulate the work of our officers in this case, and the continued efforts of all officers in preventing the smuggling of drugs at our ports of entry.”
