BURNABY, B.C. – Angus David Mitchell, wanted in connection with an attempted murder and other Burnaby homicides, was killed in a shootout with Lower Mainland police in Maple Ridge yesterday.

Following a tip off from the public cops of the RCMP Lower Mainland District Emergency Response Team were immediately sent to 216 Street, where Mitchell’s green Ford Aerostar van was sighted on an isolated road just north of 132 Ave.

Mitchell was taken into custody and his rifle seized after a shootout with the cops. He was airlifted to hospital where he was pronounced dead shortly after 1:00 pm Wednesday.

The Vancouver Police Department will investigate police handling of the situation which led to Mitchell’s death, and until its findings are announced the RCMP will withhold all further comment.
