Capilano suspension bridge video shows how hiker died

NORTH VANCOUVER, B.C. – Video surveillance footage at the Capilano Suspension Bridge shows how a 30-year-old male hiker from St. Catharines, Ontario, tragically died last Saturday when he lost his footing after jumping a four foot high metal mesh fence 100 feet down the pathway from the bridge and fell to his death on the rocky canyon floor 200 feet below.

The video shows the man standing next to the railing, when he appeared to have dropped something as he pulled out a camera from his pocket. The object fell onto a nearby ledge. He then walked about 100 feet down the pathway where he jumped over the metal fence, lost his balance and fell into the canyon.

The dead man, whose name has been withheld at his family’s request, was vacationing in the area.
