Third suspect arrested in Sun Sea illegal migrant vessel

VANCOUVER, B.C. – Another man has been arrested and two more charged in connection with their suspected involvement in smuggling hundreds of Sri illegal Lankan immigrants into Canada.

Thampeernayagam Rajaratnam, was arrested by RCMP Federal police in the Toronto area on June 5, 2011 and charged under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act (IRPA) for his part in organising the illegal migrant vessel MV Sun Sea which brought 492 illegal immigrants to Canada in August 2010. He will be transferred to BC to face charges.

Canada-wide warrants have been issued for the arrest of Nadarajah Mahendran and Sathyapavan Aseervatham who are believed to have fled Canada.

To date six men have been charged for their involvement in the Sun Sea human smuggling affair. Three are currently in Canadian police custody and one is facing extradition from France.
