Canadian pastry shop owner accused of sexual assault

DURHAM – The owner of a Pickering pastry store was arrested last week following numerous complaints by prospective employees that he had sexually assaulted them.

The job candidates had all responded to Kijiji ads for a pastry helper at the Canadian Pastry Shop on Clements Road in Pickering. They were invited by the owner, Sajeev Varghese, 38, of Black Drive, Ajax to his bakery for interviews and asked to demonstrate their skill at dessert decoration. During the test they complained of being sexually harassed and inappropriately touched.

Varghese has been detained for a bail hearing on two counts of sexual assault.

The investigation is ongoing.
