Arrest made in 2011 death of 3-year-old Niyati Jha
MISSISSAUGA – 35-year-old Nandini Jha was charged yesterday with the murder of 3-year old Niyati Jha of Mississauga who died on September 21, 2011 from injuries to the head and brain caused by severe abuse.
Monday’s arrest ends a combined investigation by the Peel police, Missing Person’s Bureau, the Chief Coroner’s Office, Ontario Forensic Pathology Services and Sick Children’s Hospital’s Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect (SCAN) Unit, into the suspicious circumstances of the child’s death.
Niyati Jha was brought to a Mississauga area medical clinic September 20, 2011. After further examination, she was transferred to the Hospital for Sick Children in a critical condition and placed on life – support, but died the following day.
Nandini Jha of Mississauga is to be charged with second degree murder in the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton tomorrow.
