Pilot killed in plane crash near Williams Lake, BC

VANCOUVER, B.C. – The pilot of a private float plane which failed to return to Williams Lake on June 30th is presumed to have perished after a police aerial search and rescue team located the downed aircraft yesterday near the Fraser River, nine km. west of Williams Lake.

The float plane had left Williams Lake airfield on Saturday June 30th at 1:40 pm and was due to return to base the same day at 5:00 pm.

Williams Lake RCMP dispatched a fixed wing aircraft and helicopter from Comox B.C after it was advised that the overdue aircraft was five hours late.

A search of the area confirmed that the pilot, who was the sole occupant of the downed plane, had not survived the crash.

BC Coroners Service and the Williams Lake RCMP are presently conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the crash.

The dead pilot’s name is being withheld until further notice.
