Victims named in Johnson Landing landslide
VANCOUVER, B.C. – Kaslo RCMP has released the identities of the four victims killed in the Johnson Landing landslide near Kaslo last Thursday.
The names of the dead are Valentine John Webber, aged 60, his two daughters, Diana Katherine Webber, aged 22, and Rachel Elizabeth Webber, aged 17.
The fourth victim is a German national Petra Frehse, aged 64.
Three homes were destroyed in the landslide which hit the small community of Johnsons Landing on the northeast coast of Kootenay Lake at about 11:00 am July 12th.
With first reports of the landslide, police search and rescue teams were immediately rushed to the disaster area including one helicopter from Kelowna and a second from Nelson, two police service dog teams, and an underwater recovery dive team.
