Two Moncton cigarette smugglers each fined $138,000

MONCTON, N.B. – Two men from Moncton N.B., were each fined $138,000 in the Moncton Provincial Court on Tuesday and their combined booty of 400,000 contraband cigarettes was confiscated by the State.

The two men, Adam Wilson,44, and Kenneth Chiasson,25, were sentenced on three charges following their arrest last February when cops from the Roving Traffic Unit intercepted their vehicles during a regular patrol on the Trans-Canada Highway in Edmundston, N.B. and discovered 200,000 cigarettes hidden in each of their vehicles.

The smuggled goods and their vehicles were seized and handed over to the State.
