14 shot on Danforth in Toronto, one woman dead, shooter is killed

14 people have been shot. One woman is dead. One young person is in critical condition and shooter is also killed. Shots rang out at 10 p.m. on Danforth in Greektown.

Toronto – A total of 14 people suffered gunshot wounds after a man opened fire near a restaurant in Greektown.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders has updated media from the scene and said 14, not including the shooter, were shot with a handgun.

One woman died at the scene. A young girl was in hospital in critical condition.

The gunman is dead. His motive for the mayhem is not known.

Toronto Police Homicide are lead investigators in Danforth Avenue and Logan area carnage.

“Witnesses call police directly during night Sunday-Monday at 416-808-5504. Daytime Homicide 416-808-7400,” said police.

The paramedics union said: “This is an extremely difficult event. Please report information to police. Paramedics are working extremely hard right now. This has been an unbelievable and tragic summer.”

They were alluding to the April sidewalk attack in downtown Toronto that killed ten and injured 14 others.

Alek Minassian is charged with ten counts of murder in that case. It’s alleged he used a rental van and targeted females. He’s also charged with 14 counts of attempted murder.

“For non-Toronto folk: Danforth/Pape is one of those lively, bustling residential areas with tons of families out on summer nights. This is horrific.,” said one woman on Twitter.

Police have said there have been over 200 shootings in the city this year.

NDP leader Jagmeet Singh said: “My heart breaks for our city of Toronto. Totally devastated by the news out of Danforth. Our hearts are with all those impacted by the horrific shooting, along with all first responders after this tragic violence.”

The motive for this shooting is not known at this time, but many Toronto are residents including some in the restaurant near the location decried the city’s gun violence.

One said he had to hide under a table when shots rang out outside.
