Donald Trump continues to side with convicted felon Paul Manafort – his former campaign chief.
In a tweet today, he said Manafort was a brave man unlike his former lawyer Michael Cohen.
“I feel very badly for Paul Manafort and his wonderful family. “Justice” took a 12 year old tax case, among other things, applied tremendous pressure on him and, unlike Michael Cohen, he refused to “break” – make up stories in order to get a “deal.” Such respect for a brave man!”- said Trump.
Cohen implicated Trump in a conspiracy to violate campaign finance laws resulting from Trump’s affairs with two women who were paid hush money.
“If anyone is looking for a good lawyer, I would strongly suggest that you don’t retain the services of Michael Cohen!,” said Trump in his usual morning tirade.
“Michael Cohen plead guilty to two counts of campaign finance violations that are not a crime. President Obama had a big campaign finance violation and it was easily settled!”
“A large number of counts, ten, could not even be decided in the Paul Manafort case. Witch Hunt!,” Trump added.
Manafort was convicted by a jury on 8 of 18 charges including bank fraud and tax dodges. The jury hung on 10 counts prompting the judge to declare a mistrial on those ten counts.
Manafort – who was a lobbyist for the previous pro- Moscow government of Ukraine faces long years in jail for his crimes and another trial on additional charges awaits.
