Vancouver – A total of nine seniors have perished in the runaway outbreak of Covid-19 at Holy Family Hospital.
As well Maple Hill care facility located on the compound of Langley Memorial Hospital reports one death in a senior who was initially asymptomatic after being transferred from Mission Memorial.
Earlier, another resident transferred to Tabor Home in Abbotsford also died. This death occurred a few days ago
In the latest update, Holy Family said: “43 residents and 24 staff members have been diagnosed with COVID-19.”
That’s a total of 67 infections in the long term care portion of the hospital.
“One resident has recovered. Sadly, nine residents have passed away since our outbreak was declared on June 9. We offer our deepest condolences to those who have lost loved ones.”
All the new deaths at Holy Family have been accounted for in BC’s total of 183 announced today by Dr. Bonnie Henry and Health Minister Adrian Dix, a spokesperson for Providence Health said.
“There are two main programs, separated on two floors, at the Holy Family campus: a 126-bed long-term care facility, as well as a 65-bed inpatient rehabilitation unit. Thus far, there are no COVID-19 cases in rehab,” according to latest statement by Holy Family.
Dr. Henry and Dix reported 6 new deaths. The total includes four deaths at Holy Family, one death at Maple Hill and one death of a senior at Langley Lodge. The death occurred in June but confirmed to be from Covid-19. A total 183 have died in BC so far. Langley Lodge outbreak reported over now took 26 lives.
Dix and Henry said in a written statement: “Today, we are providing case updates for three 24-hour reporting periods. In the first reporting period from July 3 to July 4, we had nine new cases. From July 4 to July 5, we had 15 new cases and in the last 24 hours, we have had a further seven new cases.
“This represents 31 new cases since we reported on Friday, for a total of 2,978 cases in British Columbia.
“There are 166 active cases of COVID-19 in the province and 2,629 people who tested positive have recovered.
“Of the total COVID-19 cases, 16 individuals are hospitalized, four of whom are in intensive care. The remaining people with COVID-19 are recovering at home in self-isolation.
“Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 1,008 cases of COVID-19 in the Vancouver Coastal Health region, 1,570 in the Fraser Health region, 132 in the Island Health region, 203 in the Interior Health region and 65 in the Northern Health region.
“There have been six new COVID-19 related deaths over the past three days: four in the Vancouver Coastal Health region and two in the Fraser Health region, for a total of 183 deaths in British Columbia. We offer our condolences to everyone who has lost their loved ones during the COVID-19 pandemic.”
