Abbotsford, BC – Police have taken the unusual step of warning the public about teenaged gang associate Varinderpal Singh Gill who could endanger public safety by his mere presence at any location.

Sgt. Judy Bird says police were left with no choice but to prioritize public safety and issue the warning about the danger the 19-year-old poses to anyone in his vicinity.

“The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) has determined that Varinderpal Singh Gill poses a significant risk to the public. Varinderpal Gill is involved in the gang conflict here in Abbotsford and in the lower mainland,” she said.

“The APD believes he poses a serious risk to other gang members in the conflict. He is also at risk of violence by other gang members. Because many gang shootings occur in public places, this means Varinderpal Gill’s presence in public places creates a serious risk to public safety as well.”

“The APD is taking the unusual step of asking that anyone who sees Varinderpal Gill in a public place within Abbotsford to contact the police by calling 911.

“Where possible, members of the APD will respond to that location and take steps to ensure the public are kept safe.”

Bird said in an interview that one of the difficulties is that while the teenager has family and a family home in Abbotsford, he does not live there.

Bird said the teen lives at different places and she had no idea of his whereabouts. There is no other law on the books that police can use to stop the man from moving around or no preventive detention measures to ensure his safety and the safety of the public.

Police have no outstanding charges against him but they have critical intelligence that leaves them with no choice but to make sure the public is safe. It’s believed the police issued such a warning once in the past relating to another notorious gangster.
