Woman found murdered near Boston Bar was a Belgian tourist

Amelie Christelle Sakkalis, a Belgian tourist hitchhiking from Penticton to Vancouver was found murdered north of Boston Bar.

Boston Bar, BC – A woman found murdered on August 22 on Highway 1 north of Boston Bar was a Belgian tourist.

She has been identified by the the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team (IHIT) as 28-year-old Amelle Christelle Sakkalis. She was traveling in Canada at the time of her death.

Police think she was hitchhiking from Penticton area to Vancouver on the day she was found dead north of Boston Bar.

A man was arrested at the scene and then released.

“IHIT continues to actively investigate the murder of Miss Sakkalis in partnership with the Hope RCMP, the Chilliwack RCMP Serious Crime Unit, the Integrated Forensic Identification Services and the B.C. Coroners Service,” said Cpl. Frank Jang.

“IHIT would like to speak with anyone that provided Miss Sakkalis a ride between Penticton and Boston Bar on August 22, 2018,” said Jang.

“Amelie’s family has been notified of her murder and we urge anyone with information to come forward immediately to help provide answers.”
